The Stuka zu Fuss consisted of 6 rack mounted 28cm or 32cm Rockets fitted to the side of a standard Sd Kfz 251 half-track. Designed for close range support they could fire two different rounds, the 28cm High-explosive rocket and the 32cm jellied gasoline (napalm) rocket. They had a maximum range of 2300 meters and were fired electrically, much like the Panzerschreck.
The rocket motors in the rear of each rocket were angled to create spin in flight to increase accuracy.
Each rocket came in its own crate, which was fitted directly to a bracket fitted to the half-track via racking. The weapon was aimed by adjusting the vehicle’s position using sights fitted to the front of the half-track.
The Stuka zu Fuss was usually issued to the 3rd Panzerpionier Zug (Platoon) of a Panzerpaionierkompanie and gave them devastating firepower at their call and at very short notice.
